Meditation has the power to cleanse your mind of the unwanted thoughts and negativity that surrounds you, which is one of the most important factors for a balanced crown chakra. It will help you to slowly start being mindful of your inner self and redirecting the positive energy within yourself.

For a healthy crown chakra,  practice the technique that targets the 7th chakra exclusively. The most common form of crown chakra meditation is as follows:

  • Start by sitting in a comfortable posture and make Hakini mudra for crown chakra with your fingers.
  • Close your eyes and take time to focus on your breathing rhythm.
  • Now visualize a violet lotus on the crown of your head, the location of the chakra. While taking slow deep breaths, imagine the thousand petals of the lotus opening to reveal a bright light.
  • Keep taking slow deep breaths and let this warm light or energy flow through your body.
  • Stay in this position for 10-15 minutes, and revel in this warmth. 
  • Slowly open your eyes and after a few seconds, start with your daily life.

While exhaling, you can also chant the ‘OM’ – the sound of crown chakra, by drawing out the letters. Or you can also play some relaxing music that’ll help you stay focused.

You will also notice that, while meditating, a lot of thoughts will arise. However, you should not delve into them. Meditation also assists you in the process of letting go of these unwanted thoughts. This method, also known as ‘self-inquiry’ or ‘mindful meditation’, aids in curbing any unwanted thoughts or stress that may trigger an imbalance in the crown chakra.

2. Indulge in physical exercise to help shake of the excess crown chakra energy

Doing physical exercise is essential to keep your body and mind active. As there is a chance of having an overactive chakra or excess energy, physical exercise will help in draining that energy.

An overactive chakra can also lead to an imbalance in the crown chakra. Some of them are:

  • Apathy
  • Confusion
  • Insomnia
  • Feeling of superiority
  • Aggressive
  • Judgemental

All those asanas which focus on balancing and putting gentle pressure on your head are good for crown chakra healing. In these yoga poses, breathing and meditative aspect is focused therefore it promotes better connection with inner self.

Soothing scents of essential oils, when applied either directly or indirectly can help with the balancing of the crown chakra. Essential oils are supposed to calm your mind and make you relaxed by taking away stress and tiredness. 

The aromatherapy scents that you can use for crown chakra are:

  • Jasmine
  • Rose
  • Lavender
  • Sandalwood
  • Cedarwood
  • Frankincense
  • Myrrh

These oils can be used in multiple ways. You can mix a few drops of them in a base oil, or use it in a diffuser. Buy room fresheners or incense sticks of the above scents and apply them in the room where you practice yoga or meditate. 

5. Take note of your sleep cycle and get atleast 7 hours of sleep

Getting the required amount of sleep is of utmost importance if you want to balance your crown chakra. A well-adjusted sleep cycle is the answer to most of the imbalances in our lives, and healing the chakra is one of them.

An adult should get a minimum of 7-8 hours of sleep daily for his mind to work properly. If the sleep cycle is disturbed, your mind will not be fresh, which can further cause irritability, stress, tiredness, which can create an imbalance in the crown chakra.

  • Put away your screens atleast an hour before you are about to go to bed.
  • You can apply a few drops of essential oils on your pillow to calm your mind.
  • Eat your dinner 2-3 hours before bedtime
  • Listen to sleep inducing music

The above are only a few tips to help in getting sleep at the correct time. It is essential that your mind and body get rejuvenated every day for a healthy chakra.

6. Consume a healthy and nutritious diet along with herbs

Avoid having fatty, processed and high calories food items. Such foods contain sugars and toxins that may act as triggers to feelings of anxiety and stress and can cause an imbalance in crown chakra. 

Switch to natural ingredients that are fresh and organic. Food items such as leafy vegetables, fruits, berries, fibrous food items, etc, will help in stimulating the chakra energy.

More specifically, focus on violet-coloured food items such as eggplants and grapes that will enhance the crown chakra energy. Use ginger in your teas and other foods as it has cleansing properties.

Herbs such as peppermint, Gotu kola, basil and lavender can also be used along with your food to support crown chakra balancing. 

These herbs can be used in the form of herbal teas or burned as incense. Mixing them with your regular food items is also another way to consume them.

7. Use Crystals as jewellery or energy totems to help in regulating the chakra energy

Crystals are said to have vibrations that are similar to that of the chakra energy. Using crystals in the color of chakra is another effective way to enhance the flow of energy and keep the crown chakra balanced. 

Clear Quartz, Diamond, Moonstone, Purple Fluorite and Amethyst are some of best crystals for crown chakra balancing. Their individual properties can benefit an imbalanced chakra by regulating energy.

You can either wear them as jewellery to keep them near you daily or keep the bigger pieces in a room where it is visible. Using the crystals during meditation or yoga will also help in supplementing and directly the energy flow efficiently.

8. Chant positive affirmations to instil positive thoughts in your mind

Positive affirmations, that are directed towards the chakra, have been known to boost confidence. And since the crown chakra is directly related to one’s mental health, it is imperative that we use some positive affirmations to build our self-esteem and morale.

Examples of positive affirmations that you can use for crown chakra are:

  • I am constantly connected to my highest self
  • We are all on this earth to make a difference
  • I am attuned to the divine energy of the universe
  • I am at one with the world around me
  • Right now, I am confident, happy, and sure of my worth
  • I accept myself completely
  • I am free of limiting beliefs 

You can easily adjust these affirmations as per your preference and need. It is best to say these affirmations aloud in front of the mirror, before starting your day. These affirmations can also be said after you have completed your meditation session to complement the energy flow.

How long do practices take to show their effects?

As long as you keep practising the above tips and instil them in your daily routine, you do not have to worry about your crown chakra getting imbalanced. Getting a chakra in balance requires time, commitment, effort, and most of all patience, hence one should not worry about getting instant results.

The main purpose here is to focus on restoring your physical and emotional well-being. As time progresses, you will automatically start feeling yourself getting connected with spirituality. 

Signs that your crown chakra is healing

Once you regain that balance, you will start appreciating the beauty of life and of your existence as well. You will also be able to sense a feeling of serenity and get clarity of thoughts. You will feel more grounded, and become sensible in your judgments. The realization that everything comes from one divine source will aid in making better life choices and remove any egoistic tendencies.
